Makoii, Art & Healing

Art can help us heal.

Our internal awareness and capacity for transformation can expand through experiences with art, it urges us beyond all limited self-identifications.

At the heart of Makoii's foundation lies art, particularly Tibetan Thanka art, which has long been used in Tibetan traditions to convey sacred wisdom. These intricate paintings serve as windows into self-reflection, philosophy, spirituality, and knowledge. Notably, Thanka art include detailed medical illustrations, such as The Blue Beryl medical charts, that depict every aspect of wellness.

Makoii draws its name and logo inspiration from the essence of such Thankas, embodying the holistic approach to wellness found in Tibetan medicine.

Featured here is a Thangka painting of Sangye Menla, or the Medicine Buddha, depicted in deep blue lapis lazuli, symbolizing his ability to purify negative emotions and alleviate suffering. With his palm facing outward, the Medicine Buddha offers protection, while holding the fruit of the myrobalan tree in his right hand, symbolizing healing.

Similar to the myrobalan, Makoii, or Makoy (black nightshade), holds great significance in Ayurveda and Tibetan medicine, representing balance, inner peace, and holistic healing.

The name Makoii and the logo artwork draw inspiration from the Thangka depiction of Sangye Menla's right hand, reflecting the aspiration to create plant-based products that, like the myrobalan, foster balance, inner peace, and holistic healing.

Incorporating elements of Tibetan medicine that aims to instill the core principle of understanding how our perception shapes the physical world, including our bodies, we underscore the belief in the mind's pivotal role in leading towards wellness, emphasizing the need for wholesome well-being.

Therefore Makoii Apothecary is founded on the belief that genuine healing begins with recognizing our interconnectedness with the earth, plants, and flowers.
